Men’s Basketball
The men’s team opened the season with a home game against Franklin College on Saturday. The Thunder won 80-66. Tuesday, the Thunder travelled to Defiance, Ohio to face off against Defiance College. The Thunder trailed 31-34 in the half, and ended up losing the game 67-65, bringing their season record to 1-1.
Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team opened their season in Notre Dame, Indiana, facing Saint Mary’s College. They opened the first half with a decisive 35-8 lead, stretching their lead in the second half to finish 78-41. They then played their first home game on Tuesday against Clarke College, winning the game 65-54 to secure their second victory of the season.
Swimming
Both the men’s and women’s teams lost in the dual meet against UW-Milwaukee on Friday night. The women lost 134-71 while the men fell 137-65. Junior Kirsty Nitz and freshman Kayla Robertson won two events each with freshman Erin Bagley winning the 100-yard breaststroke for the women’s team. Freshman Chris Dingfield and freshman Addison Coen finished first in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke, respectively, for the men’s team.
Wrestling
The Thunder lost a dual match to Elmhurst, a fellow CCIW school, on Thursday night with a score of 22-21. Freshman Carlos Fuentez won the 125 pound weight class, followed by Thunder defeats in the 133, 141 and 149 pound weight divisions. Senior Mark Savenok won the 157 class with a pin at 3:21, followed by sophomore Stephen Aiello, at 165 pounds, winning 22-7. Senior Dan Olsen and sophomore Logan Walkup each won their matches in the 184 and 197 divisions as well.
