Can't stop, won't stop

Coming off a successful week, the Thunder carried these positive feelings into this week as they continued to stretch their winning streak.

After a two-game winning streak, the Thunder came home to King Arena on Saturday to face North Park. It was the ladies’ last regular season home game of the year and, thus, Senior Night. And what a Senior Night it was.

The Thunder began the half with a blitzkrieg of the Viking defense, hopping out to a 28-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. The second was not much better for the Vikings as the Thunder shot a total of 53.13 percent from the field and made all four three-point attempts.

The women did not let their foot off the gas in the second half, either, as they ended the game victorious by a score of 90-58. Senior Chantal Meacham led the way for the Thunder with 20 points and an incredible 6-7 from beyond the arc. Fellow seniors Katie McDaniels and Ellie Zeller also chipped in with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

All of the team’s seniors played and scored on their memorable night as senior Abby Dorman poured in four points during nine minutes of play.

On Wednesday night, the Thunder beat Millikin by a score of 68-52. The women got off to a slow start and were down 10-8 at the end of the first quarter. After roaring back in the second quarter, the team was up 30-22 at halftime and never looked back.

Senior Katie McDaniels led the team with 17 points. Four other Thunder players were also in double figures including senior Chantal Meacham with 11, sophomore Devin Kyler with 10 points and 10 rebounds, junior Kelly Lawson with 10 points and senior Ellie Zeller with 10 points. This balanced scoring, as well as the ability to hold Millikin without a made three-pointer in the game, allowed the Thunder leave Decatur, Ill. victorious.
The team’s next game will be on the road at Carroll this Saturday at 2 p.m before returning to King Arena on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Illinois Wesleyan.
