Women's Basketball Recap

The Wheaton women’s basketball team finished out an exciting season with an overall 24-5 record (14-2 conference record). Bringing in seven new freshmen, the team worked hard to create team unity through DSGs and weekly team dinners.

The Thunder held a relatively small 13.1 percent turnover rate for the season, as well as an average of 42 rebounds per game. By the middle of the season, the team was a well-oiled machine, going on three winning streaks, the longest of which lasted nine games.

The team strived to not only be competitive with their opponents, but also with each other and themselves. Some of the players even broke their own records for career three-pointers, including senior Katie McDaniels with 543 and senior Chantal Meacham with 256.

Although the Thunder suffered a few losses, they were almost never far behind and never got blown out by any opponents. But they dealt their fair share of crushing victories such as their 102-37 victory against Carroll University and an 84-35 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology.
2 Corinthians 12:9 was the team’s verse, dealing with Jesus’ power made perfect in weakness and his grace being sufficient. The dedication and strength of the women’s basketball team propelled them as they let this verse inspire them to new heights this past year. Even though numerous key players will be graduating, the team is sure to lean into this verse and their experiences this year in order to best this year’s national tournament finish.
