Quick like a bunny

The Thunder track and field squads spent Easter weekend competing in the Benedictine Eagle Relays. The girls finished first in a crowded field of talent, notching 95 points in the two-day event by relying on a stacked group of relay teams and some strong individual performances to edge out the other competitors.
Four top-two finishes in relays solidified the Thunder women’s victory as girls from all four years in school combined for some smoking fast times in the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800-meter relays. While most students would struggle to even clear a hurdle on the track, freshman Favor Ezewuzie cleared them all in the 100-meter hurdles in a mere 15.17 seconds to claim second place. Junior Ellie Hawthorne also piled on the points this weekend with a second-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase and a time of 11:12.07, which is faster than the average jaunt from Terrace to Edman Chapel.
The women dominated this weekend, while the men did their best to keep pace. The men’s team tied for seventh with Lewis at 50 points on the weekend while Benedictine clinched the main prize. The weekend featured several solid relay placings in the 4×200, 4×400 and the 4×800-meter races accompanied by a number of impressive individual results.
Sophomore Miles Trujillo and freshman Seth Massot placed third and fourth respectively in the 3000-meter steeplechase with times that reflect a typical saunter from Fischer to the College Ave train station. The 4×200-meter relay of junior Sola Olateju, senior Tommy Cole, sophomore Michael Bloss and senior Sam Bertram placed first with a scorching time of 1:30.93, faster than it takes to produce a whole wheat Belgian Waffle with coconut and chocolate chips in Saga.
This upcoming Saturday the Thunder will host the Don Church Twilight Meet and hope to continue the final push of qualifications for the upcoming CCIW conference meet. Credible team sources have told The Record it will be a weekend to behold as junior Hudson Thomas seeks to finish the 1600-meter dash in less time than it takes to make an average Saga omelette.
