This past week marked the closing of the regular season for golf. Both the men’s and women’s golf teams closed out their regular season with top five finishes at their respective tournaments. The women finished second at the Carthage College Spring Invitational on Tuesday, April 25. The men placed fourth in a field of 17 at the Weist Foundation Classic on April 22.
Before playing in the Carthage College Spring Invitational, the women were at the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling, where they tied for sixth out of 16. Senior Madeline Bond shot 164 to earn a fourth-place finish. Fellow senior Ariana Kim shot a 180 in the tournament.
At their last tournament, the Carthage invitational, Wheaton had three top ten finishers. Kim tied for second with 81, while Bond tied for fourth at 82 strokes. Goranson carded 90 to take ninth place. The Carthage invitational marks the last tournament of the women’s season since they will not be in the NCAA tournament. For their 2016-2017 season, the Thunder never placed lower than eighth where there was a team score. They claimed three second place finishes.
Looking to next year, sophomore Karissa Raschke stated, “We have some really great recruits joining our team in the fall so I’m excited for next season.”
