In the 1985 classic movie “Back to the Future,” Marty McFly has to intervene so his father and mother still end up falling in love — despite his unexpected intrusion — otherwise he’ll blip out of existence. What was the clincher for this happening? When his mother and father ended up in each other’s arms at the school dance after his father rescues her from nasty Biff. Hence, Marty succeeds, the two fall in love, and he continues to exist.
