John Dickson’s First Hymn Project revives the first-ever Christian hymn and gives it back to the world.

In 2016, prior to his work as a professor of Biblical and theological studies at Wheaton, John Dickson was on a research sabbatical in Oxford studying education and memory in the ancient world. During his research, he found a reference to a hymn in a footnote, which piqued his interest. 
As he looked down the microscope at the manuscript, he realized he was looking at the oldest known Christian hymn with musical notation. This moment was the beginning of the First Hymn project.
