Theater is primarily a form of witness. These days I have been overwhelmed with the gift of seeing other people’s lives and stories portrayed on stage. Actors become vessels through which they testify and advocate for someone who lived a hundred years ago, or only lived through the pages of a story. I’ve often thought of theater as a form of practical empathy. It is a powerful thing to step into someone else’s mannerisms, words and story and seek to see the world through their eyes.
