Every Friday morning around 9 a.m., in a room full of folding tables and chairs, sewing machines whir, scissors cut fabric and thread, pins fall to the floor, irons press interfacing onto fabric and lively conversation swirls. This is sewing class at the Christ for the City Transformation Center in the “precario” — a precarious neighborhood — of Tirrases in San José, Costa Rica.
